Baby you can drive my car

This morning A. and I made a fun trip to the Red Sea Traffic department to pick the number plate for our car (Yes! We bought one!). It turned out to take not less than 5 hours due to all the paper work, the check-ups, and... Silke who had the radio on for 3 hours. Result: battery low and noone near who could fix it. We had to take a taxi to Hurghada to buy a cable ("silke" in Arabic, oh the irony) but had to visit 10 shops until we found it. Luckily the taxi had really cool Koala chairs which kept the spirit high. In the end we managed to fix the problem and we could finally head home. Did I already mention it was HOT today?

Lemonade

The boys were so proud and giggly when I took a photo of their shop at the corner of our street. The self-made lemonade they were selling is typical for Ramadan.

Kunafe

When A. came home yesterday and asked what I had done, my answer was: "I made Kunafe!" -"Nice! And what else?", -"Umm, that's all." To be honest, before I went to bed, I also finished a book. A very productive day it was, indeed. That's what weekends are for...

Dinner date

During Ramadan, A. and I usually eat at home but last Wednesday we decided to go out, to eat lobster in our favorite fish restaurant. We started the dinner with dried fruit (an old Ramadan tradtition) and ended with ice cream (our new tradition) from a Syrian who choose the cafe across our appartment as his temporarily vending spot. Excellent choice.

Ramadan Kareem

Ramadan has started again! My favorite part of this very special month? Dried fruits for breakfast and colourful decoration all over town.

Friday afternoon

Last Friday was spent at the harbour in Hurghada with my German friend C. The weather was as nice as the company: there was a soft breeze, and we chatted for hours while drinking cola and eating ice cream. She showed me some cool shops I hadn't discovered yet and before we knew it was dinner time. Our men came by after work, and we went to the fish restaurant all together. Photos were taken at the golden hour, my favorite time of the day.

30 June

The week started really hopeful. It's amazing what the Egyptian people have accomplished in a couple of days: president Morsi left and made room for a new Egypt for everyone: Muslims, Copts, young, old, men and women. Let us pray for a peaceful outcome for the 2nd Egyptian revolution!

Boat lunch

The simple life: the people you love, a pic nic, and a boat. I feel blessed to live in Egypt. Life is good!
